THIRTEEN years after he vowed not to return to Guyana, dancehall star Vybz Kartel has announced he will perform in the country in 2025.
In a social media post, the Jamaican entertainer said: “Guyana, next year, a blood – at trouble.
“Gwan save up unno money, yeh hear. I’m forwarding.”
Kartel, 48, who was recently released from prison following a murder charge, had said in September 22, 2011, that he will never return to Guyana.
He claimed then that he was banned from Guyana for not appearing at a “Jam Zone Summer Break” concert.
Kartel (Adidja Palmer) said: “I refused to go there before the ban was imposed so the ban wasn’t necessary. I banned myself.”
The artiste was arrested and charged in 2011 for the murder of Clive “Lizard” Williams.
He maintained his innocence but was convicted in 2014.
The Privy Council recently overturned his conviction.
Kartel, who developed health problems while in prison, is preparing to return to the concert stage, and a Jamaican show is scheduled for December 31.
He is expected to perform from his large repertoire of old hits and new numbers.
Kartel is considered one of Jamaica’s biggest-ever dancehall entertainers.
