WOULD recipients of Pfizer Covid-19 vaccines in Trinidad and Tobago have to receive booster shots?

The United States is likely to administer a third shot of the vaccine to create safeguards from the highly transmissible Delta variant.

Pfizer’s CEO Albert Bourla was quoted in the American media as stating that data “suggest that a third dose of our vaccine elicits antibody levels that significantly exceed those seen after the two-dose primary schedule.”

Manufacturer BioNTech also submitted data to the US Food and Drug Administration to support a third of booster shot.

There are no known BioNTech vaccines being publicly administered in T&T.

Bourla said the third shot may be needed within six to12 months in order to become fully vaccinated.

He said: “It is extremely important to suppress the pool of people that can be susceptible to the virus.”

The US Government has pledged to give T&T a total of 907,920 Pfizer vaccines, and has landed a tranche of 305,370 doses.
