EXPECT a showdown in the House of Representatives next Wednesday when the Government moves to extend the State of Emergency by three months.
Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley is likely to be belligerent when he introduces the parliamentary motion to add three months to the SoE.
Only a simple majority is required.
But the political Opposition has come down hard against the measure.
Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar said that “Rowley’s misguided policies appear to be driven by a desire to be a dictator rather than scientific data.”
Ms. Persad-Bissessar claimed that the objectives of the SoE have not been met, and that Rowley is displaying a “craven lust for power without accountability.”
She stated: “I call on the Government to abandon this draconian measure and instead focus their efforts at restarting the economy and getting citizens vaccinated.”
If the opposition opts in Parliament to vote against the SoE extension, there may be an angry rejoinder from Rowley.
