PARENTS of students of Ramai Trace Hindu in Penal are these days quoting the adage “Gopaul luck is not Seapaul luck.”
The parents are wondering what they must do to become as fortunate as their colleagues at various other parts of the country.
Students and their parents of the Ramai Trace institution have been looking on as the school bodies of San Juan Government Primary, Chatham Government Primary and Malabar Government Primary have received brand-new facilities.
The new school structures were commissioned over the past few days by Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley.
As for the Ramai Trace School, construction was 95 percent completed when the Kamla Persad-Bissessar Government demitted office in September 2015.
Since then, no construction works have been undertaken in spite of heartfelt appeals from parents, public placard protests, and queries in the House of Representatives by Oropouche East Member of Parliament Dr. Roodal Moonilal.
Weed is now growing and animals are grazing on the compound, and there are concerns about vandalism and disrepair to the facility.
The Government has declined to respond to the appeals, and has, instead, focused on constructing schools in other areas of the country.
Rowley delivered rousing addresses at each function.
The 201 Ramai Trace students, meanwhile, have been made to journey over the past few years to makeshift classes at a Hindu temple.
One parent pondered: “What have our students done to deserve this treatment from the Government?
“Why can’t taxpayers’ in our community be treated equitably?”
Dr. Moonilal spoke of “the suffering and distress of innocent children.”
