PROMINENT politician Dr. Roodal Moonilal is now being regaled in chutney.
And by one of the country’s premier artistes, no less.
Singer Kenneth Seepersad copped the second position in the semi-final of the Soca-Chutney Competition with “Moonilal D Man With The Big Dhantal.”
The final of the competition is scheduled for Carnival Friday.
Seepersad sings: “Moonilal is the man dey call the lion/ De man is a warrior and a champion/ When he pull out the dhantal for the enemies/ He does have all ah dey begging on their knees.”
The sing-along chorus goes: “Moonilal is the man with the dhantal/ Moonilal causing plenty bacchanal.”
One verse states: “Moonilal is a fighter for the people/ Always willing, ready and able/ The man never disappoint nobody/ He does treat everybody like he family/ From Toco to Cedros, Laventille to Penal/ Everybody know he is the king with de dhantal.”
Other verses extol Moonilal’s political skill and experience and his representation of the people.
The song is getting heavy rotation at chutney fetes and at bars.
A dhantal is a long steel rod that serves as a percussion instrument.
