THE British firm which has been seeking to uncover fraud in Trinidad and Tobago’s state sector for several years is having difficulty in collecting millions of dollars from the Government.
Edmonds, Marshall McMahon Ltd. has unpaid invoices for $3.5 million, according to a statement submitted to the Government in June.
It is estimated that the legal company has so far been paid up to $45 million.
The investigations are centred on Estate Management and Business Development Company (EMBD), Lifesport and the now-disbanded Education Facilities Company Ltd. (EFCL).
The firm, headed by founder Kate McMahon, has a mandate to target officials of the previous Kamla Persad-Bissessar administration.
The Government had previously refused to provide details in Parliament of the legal costs, saying the matter was sub-judice.
The investigations have not led to any arrests.
In the past, former Government Minister Dr. Roodal Moonilal said the police service was under “extreme political pressure from an English team” to have him arrested.
There are reports that certain police officials want to press charges even though Director of Public Prosecutions Roger Gaspard has not granted approval.
The opposition has called the entire affair a political witch-hunt.
