MEN WHO THINK THEY CAN COOK (THE BOOKS)

A MEMBER of Parliament took home a total of $752,405.96 in 2023 for the rental of properties to government ministries.

Another MP got $225,378.48 for another property rental last year.

The Auditor General raised questions with the Ministry of Finance on these and various other high-expense financial dealings with the public’s purse.

In some instances, there were no responses, and in others, the explanations were inadequate.

Because of the Auditor General-Finance Minister debacle, taxpayers are finding out about questionable payments, suspicious contracts, lack of supporting documents and non-existent trading companies.

A spate of dubious dealings is being exposed.

More will emerge.

It is a 400-page report, after all.

In other words, “mout’ open and tory jump out.”

Colm Imbert jumping through hoops to quell the fracas has provoked more suspicion.

Attorney General Reginald Armour’s attempt to withhold payment of the Auditor General’s legal bills exposes a Government jittery over the financial scandal.

To be fair, the Auditor General each year uncovers lack of transparency or blatant wrongdoing in various government ministries and agencies.

But there is no memory of a turn of events as outrageous as what is currently taking place.

By her fortitude, Jaiwantie Ramdass could emerge as a modern-day Gene Miles, a corruption-buster of men who think they can cook – the books.
