JARETTE Narine, the former Trinidad and Tobago Minister of Agriculture who has passed away, would be remembered for his passion for public service – and his booming voice.
Narine was a close relative of international cricketer Sunil Narine.
Jarette aggressively advocated and defended the PNM administrations of which he was a part and in which he had ministerial duties.
He received a national award in 2022.
His accomplishments in the Agriculture Ministry and in other ministerial portfolios are not easily remembered, but few who heard him would forget his almost deafening voice.
In Parliament, he was often heckled by both colleagues and opponents that he did not need a microphone.
He spoke assertively and extolled his party and his own works.
Born into a PNM household, he contested seven elections – and won all – for the party, both at local and national levels.
Despite his stinging voice, he carried a smile and had a jovial personality.
