AN Indian business process outsourcing company named Decipher Health Records is opening up operations in Guyana and employing 120 locals.
Decipher is to sign a memorandum of understanding with the Guyana Office of Investment, which would lead to the recruitment of the workers.
Revelation of the investment has been made by India’s High Commissioner to Guyana Dr. K.J Srinivasa.
The company is involved in medical billing and transition and is one of several international organisations setting up shop in the fast-growing Guyanese market.
Other agreements are expected to be signed during the visit to Guyana by India’s Minister of External Affairs Subrahmanyam Jaishankar.
Dr. Srinivasa said that both India and Guyana have been working on various agreements, including one for hassle-free travel.
There are also discussions on agricultural cooperation, including the production of millet.
India has been internationally promoting millet as one measure of creating food sufficiency and healthy eating.
India and Guyana earlier this year agreed to work collaboratively in various fields for common good.
Among other sectors, India is investing in Guyana’s energy sector.
The visit of the powerful Minister Jaishankar is seen as an indication of the growing ties between both countries.
