NATIONAL Security Minister Fitzgerald Hinds’ broadside against the protective services has come in the midst of a public conflict over the appointment of a police commissioner.
Hinds claimed that 40 per cent of employees in the various agencies “do all the work.”
He said: “We have a good idea who the offenders, the criminals, the gun-toters and stashers are in every community.
“We have a responsibility for every inch of space in this country.”
Hinds claimed that there are “limping” arms of national security.
His verbal onslaught has come at a time when there is much speculation that the Government would by-pass incumbent Gary Griffith in the appointment of a Commissioner of Police.
Griffith’s three-year contract ended on August 17, and he was named acting commissioner.
He has since gone on vacation.
The Government is said to be favouring current Acting Commissioner McDonald Jacob.
Relations between Griffith and the Government are strained over issues including a firearms-for-sale racket.
