IN an age of “gender neutrality,” the cricketing world is moving to abolish the term “batsmen.”
Get ready to refer to them as “batters.”

MCC, the British cricketing authority, has amended the laws of the game to introduce the gender-neutral term to “reinforce cricket’s status as an inclusive game for all.”

An MCC official said the organisation “believes in cricket being a game for all, and this move recognises the changing landscape of the game in modern times.”

But what about other gendered terms in common usage?
Like “maiden overs,” “night watchman” and “third man?”

No decision has yet been made.

Cricket was invented in 1909, and this is the first known change in titles.
